Local Interest

Beverley is approximately 5 miles away
Most people know Beverley for its beautiful Minster which dominates the town, a masterpiece of medieval architecture with wonderful stone carvings inside. But there is much more to discover. Park the car for the day and explore on foot: tucked away down narrow, medieval streets are antique shops and craft arcades, and the market squares are a riot of colour on market days. A very pleasant walk from the Minster, through Beverley’s historic streets and market places, will bring you to the beautiful St Mary’s Church where, if you look carefully, you’ll find the carved rabbit which Lewis Carroll brought to life as the March Hare in Alice in Wonderland. A day at the races is another real holiday treat and Beverley Racecourse puts on a great show on race days.

York is approximately 25 miles away
Attractions are thick underfoot in York! Highlights include the magnificent York Minster the largest Gothic Cathedral north of the Alps, and the Castle Museum with its perfectly recreated Victorian and Edwardian street-scenes. Let 21st century technology transport you back to Viking Age York by visiting the JORVIK centre – or marvel at William the Conqueror’s Clifford’s Tower, wander through the terrifying York Dungeon – don’t miss the National Railway Museum the largest of it’s kind in the world.

If you love shopping, you’ll love York. One of York’s prettiest shopping streets, Stonegate, runs in a straight line from the Minster to the river and is known for its exclusive shops. The Shambles is a perfect medieval thoroughfare – flag stoned, incredibly narrow and lined with overhanging timber-framed houses. Enjoy a day out at York Races.
